Dear Orland Township Resident,

Among the most sacred freedoms we enjoy as American citizens is the right to vote. At Orland Township, we strongly encourage residents to exercise that right and we take pride in our efforts to maximize participation in our democratic process by making voting as accessible as possible.

With all state government executive branch offices on the ballot this year, plus all Illinois General Assembly and U.S. House seats, this election is especially important. For two weeks prior to the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 8, residents may vote early at the Orland Township’s office and community center at 14807 S. Ravinia Ave.

Please see the Clerk’s Column on page 7 for detailed early voting dates and times. We hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to cast your ballot at a time that works best for you.

Flu Shots at Orland Township

It’s hard to believe fall is already here and that the holiday season is just weeks away. Orland Township is planning a series of holiday-themed events — see the list appearing below — so we encourage residents to get immunized and reduce the chances they will miss out on the season’s festivities and opportunities to gather in celebration with friends and family.

Flu shots will be available at our community center, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., every Wednesday through Nov. 2 from 3 to 7 p.m. See the Health Services section on page 8 for more information about all of the Township’s immunization clinics.

Public health experts are warning that this could be a particularly severe flu season, which means it is especially important to get a flu shot to protect yourself and others.

Highlights of Holiday Events

Holiday Donation Drive-Thru: Enjoy the utmost convenience while aiding Orland Township’s Holiday Program. Between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29 and Tuesday, Dec. 6, community members may use the drive-thru beside our facility to quickly and easily donate new, unwrapped gift items, clothing and non-perishable food items to help support local families experiencing hardship this holiday season.

Amazon Digital Toy Drive: If you can’t make it out to stores in time, there’s another option to support the Holiday Program. From Wednesday, Nov. 9 to Friday, Dec. 9, residents may shop Amazon to direct gift items straight to Orland Township for the Holiday Program. The Township has assembled an easy-to-shop list; visit orlandtownship.org for more information.

Student Holiday Letters to Elders: Brighten the holidays for area seniors by sending them greeting letters. Orland Township is sponsoring Holiday Letters to Elders from Wednesday, Nov. 9 to Friday, Dec. 9 and we invite students to join us by writing their own letters. Service hours are available.

Family Bingo with Santa: Get into the holiday spirit with the kids or grandkids at Orland Township’s Family Bingo with Santa on Thursday, Dec. 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. Santa will be here for pictures. We’ll also have Papa Joe’s pizza and salad, and prizes for bingo winners.

Merry PAWS-mas: To support local families in need of assistance for their animal companions, we encourage you to consider donating dog food, cat food and/or litter for the Orland Township Pet Pantry from Thursday, Dec. 1 through Friday, Dec. 16. Bring your four-legged canine friend to the Township office and receive a special treat for your support!
