Orland Township hosted their first ever cooking class for residents on Feb. 15. More classes are scheduled for March.
The event allowed participants the opportunity to learn how to make a traditional Polish dish called a Pierogi, a type of dumpling filled with either savory or sweet fillings.
“The Township’s Health Services Department is offering 3 additional classes throughout February & March to teach individuals how to prepare healthy, delicious meals at home without breaking the bank,” according to a Facebook post from Orland Township. “ It’s a great way to learn new skills and embrace cultural diversity through food.”
The classes are taught by Health Services Coordinator Diane Goerg, who walks participants through the recipes step by step and help them make the dishes from scratch.
The township hosted a class on making your own homemade pasta on Feb. 22, and will host homemade tamales and homemade egg roll classes on March 21 and March 28 respectively.
